Questions about Questions
In order to enter the Visual Challenge (“the Challenge”), you must agree to these Official Terms and Conditions (“Rules”). Therefore, please read these Rules prior to entry to ensure you understand and agree. You agree that submission of an entry in the Challenge constitutes agreement to these Rules. You may not submit an entry to the Challenge and are not eligible to receive the awards described in these Rules unless you agree to these Rules. These Rules form a binding legal agreement between you and 360Giving with respect to the Challenge.
ELIGIBILITY
This Challenge is open to individuals without any geographical restrictions. It is also open to Non-profit, For - profit, and charitable organisations.
SPONSORS
This Challenge is run by 360Giving, which is a company limited by guarantee and a charity registered at 17 Oval Way, London SE11 5RR ("Challenge Sponsor").
CHALLENGE PARTICIPATION
Entrants must submit their entries to the Challenge through the challenge website and follow the steps indicated. Entrants need to use the 360Giving dataset in their work. To access the data, select one of the methods below:

Entries may come from an individual or from a team of up to eight people. If submitting on behalf of a team, the entry should include all the names of the team members, but any awards made will be granted to the owner of the email address used in conjunction with the submission.
Each submission to the Challenge must be accompanied by a primary contact name (full, legal name) and a primary contact email address (valid email).
If you should win the Challenge, we will contact you using this primary email address. We are not responsible for incorrectly-entered user information resulting in the inability to contact you.
Each entrant, either individual or team, can submit up to two data visualizations, one for each question. Any attempt to submit more than two entries will result in disqualification.
Entries must be received via the online submission form, starting 27th April 2018. Entries will be accepted up to 15th June 2018 at 11:59:59 pm British Summer Time (BST).
SUBMITTED MATERIALS
Entries must be data visualizations. A range of media will be accepted, including - but not limited to - interactive web apps, graphic images, video, etc. Note that if you do create an interactive app (Javascript, Flash, etc.), it must function in a normal web browser environment and you must host it on your own site. We retain the right to judge what is and is not a valid visualization, and to disqualify entries that are not data visualizations.
Entries must use the 360Giving data set. In order to answer the Challenge questions you must use other datasets as well and we encourage you to do so. You can find a list of suggested datasets here.
The entrant is responsible for the cost (if any) of sending any submission to the Challenge Sponsor.
By submitting an entry you agree explicitly that all components of your submission and supporting information are indeed original creations. Any intellectual property infringement, misuse or plagiarism of another’s work in any form or state will result in immediate disqualification and forfeiture of eligibility to receive all recognition and awards. You also agree to allow 360Giving to make public statements regarding any disqualifications and any grounds for disqualification.
Depending on the type of media used for your entry, your visualization will either be hosted on our site, on your own site, or on a third party site:
Stand-alone images will be uploaded and hosted on our site.
Videos can be uploaded to YouTube or embedded on our site.
Interactive visualizations must be hosted on your own site. Our site will feature images or screenshots of the project, but you are responsible for keeping an active, working, accessible web page with the visualization. If you are a finalist, we will discuss with you howwe can keep hosting the project after the challenge is over.
Since we are promoting open data and a sharing culture, your entry must be published with a Creative Commons 4.0 license. You retain copyright of your project, but you may not require payment for its sharing or fair use.
You will continue to own your entry, but you grant 360Giving permission to use, copy, distribute and publicly display your Challenge submission for any purpose, without any compensation to you.
Your entry may not include trademarked, copyrighted or commercially-licensed elements or any component that would make it ineligible for a Creative Commons licence.
We also encourage any code associated with your visualisation to be released with an Open Source Initiative-approved licence and published openly. For more information on open source licences, visit: http://www.opensource.org/licenses/
SCORING & CRITERIA
All submissions will be judged by a jury selected by 360Giving.
The jury will assess all submissions on the following criteria:
The applicant’s ability to answer the Challenge question(s) correctly and clearly.
Aesthetics and creativity.
How innovative it is compared to current visualisations.
In the case of a tie, the jury reserves the right to split the main award equally between the top entries.
If an entry is disqualified it will not be eligible for an award. We also retain the right to remove disqualified entries from our visualization gallery.
If no entries are received, no awards will be distributed.
AWARDS
It is our intention - depending on the number of submissions and their quality - to make an award of between £100 and £500 to each entry that meets our submission criteria.
Grand awards of £6,000, £4,000 and £2,000 will be announced by 31st September 2018.
The Challenge Sponsors have the right to award more prizes as they see fit.
Winners will be publicly announced by the end of September.
Winners must claim their awards within 1 month of notification, or the award may be forfeited. The winnings will be awarded in the form of a bank transfer made directly to the bank account of the primary contact person, as submitted on the entry form. To receive the prize, the winner must submit an identity proof and their bank details.
The winners’ participation may be required for promotional activity.
The prize cannot be exchanged or transferred by the entrant and cannot be redeemed by the entrant for any other prize. The entrant must pay all taxes (including without limitation, any personal income tax, where applicable) and other costs associated with your acceptance of the prize and not specifically included in the prize. 360Giving will not be liable for any/all taxes (including without limitation, any personal income tax) and other costs associated with your acceptance of the prize and not specifically included in the prize.
NOTIFICATION
Finalists will be notified between 1st July and 1st September 2018.
Finalists will be publicly announced the week of Mid September 2018. Finalists will be individually contacted that week to discuss award eligibility and continued web hosting of the project (if necessary).
CONDUCT
Any information you provide about yourself or your team will be accurate.
You agree not to falsely represent yourself or your team by entering the Challenge under an assumed name with the intent of impersonating another person or team. If you do so, 360Giving reserves the right to disqualify you from the Challenge.
If the Challenge sponsor discovers that an entrant has attempted to undermine or manipulate the site or the Challenge in any way, that entrant will be disqualified.
PRIVACY
Each submission to the Challenge must be accompanied by a primary contact name (full, legal name) and a primary contact email address (valid email). Your name and email will be kept private and used only for communication between the Challenge Sponsor and you in relation to this challenge. DISCLAIMER
Information provided on this site is provided for general information and should be used at your own risk.
360Giving reserves the right to remove any submissions at any time.
You agree to indemnify and agree to keep indemnified the Challenge Sponsor from and against any liability, claims, demands, losses, damages, costs and expenses resulting from any act, default or omission by you and/or a breach of any warranty set forth herein. To the maximum extent permitted by law, you agree to defend, indemnify and hold harmless the Challenge Sponsor from and against any and all claims, actions, suits or proceedings, as well as any and all losses, liabilities, damages, costs and expenses (including reasonable attorneys fees) arising out of or accruing from your entry.
You warrant that they have full rights to use the content of their entries.
360Giving is not responsible for technical difficulties related to the submission process and the use of the 360Giving data.
The Challenge Sponsor reserves the right to cancel or postpone the Challenge if it is not capable of running because of issues such as computer viruses, bugs, tampering or technical difficulties.
360Giving takes no responsibility for entries that are lost, delayed, misdirected or incomplete or cannot be delivered or entered for any technical or other reason. Proof of delivery of the entry is not proof of receipt.
360Giving reserves the right at any time and from time to time to modify or discontinue, temporarily or permanently, the Challenge with or without prior notice due to reasons outside its control (including, without limitation, in the case of anticipated, suspected or actual fraud). The decision of 360Giving in all matters under its control is final and binding.
GOVERNING LAW
This Challenge is governed by, subject to, and construed in accordance with the laws of the the United Kingdom, excluding all conflict of law rules. If any provision(s) of these Rules are held to be invalid or unenforceable, all remaining provisions hereof will remain in full force and effect. To the extent permitted by law, the rights to litigate, seek injunctive relief or make any other recourse to judicial or any other procedure in case of disputes or claims resulting from or in connection with this Challenge are hereby excluded, and all participants expressly waive any and all such rights.
WINNERS LIST
The winning entries will be posted on the 360Giving website and any related project website for the Challenge.
